Thiago Rafael Tomei Fernandez

NGT 3.4 Task Leader

Hi, I’m Thiago Tomei! I’m a Researcher at the São Paulo Research and Analysis Center (SPRACE) in Brazil, and I have been part of the CMS experiment since 2007. I got my PhD from the São Paulo State University (Unesp) in 2012, and been hired as a researcher in the same university since 2016. Currently I am working in the NGT project, as well as doing/reviewing physics analyses in CMS, supervising students and teaching in graduate school.

My main scientific interests are physics beyond the standard model and scientific computing. In the former, I am currently interested in searches for dark matter and, more generally, in a posited dark sector of physics with the data collected by CMS — see our paper in Physics Reports [0]. However, collecting, organising and analysing those data is a huge undertaking, leading to the latter interest; I am interested both in the details of our current [1] and future [2] high-level trigger system. I also think that machine learning has an important role to play in the future of scientific computing, and have put some effort into that, especially into generative models [3,4,5].
